Hestia has been teaching piano to young children in the United States since 1970. Hestia and Romayne Abeyesekera still give piano instruction to a limited number of students at the St. Louis Park studio, which is conveniently located 1/2 mile from Knollwood Mall in St. Louis Park, MN. Hestia’s approach is to give the child a musical experience for future improvisation and enjoyment.

Hestia has mastered the art of making things simple and easy for children by breaking information down into its smallest instructional components. Hestia has furthermore mastered the art of organizing the proper educational sequence of instruction for these bits of information. She began teaching piano by incorporating the principles of Carl Orff, Rudolf Laban, Zoldan Kodaly and Maria Montessori. This eventually led to an establishment of her piano method: The Making of Music, and later Kinderhaus of Musik, her own private school for young children.

Her methods and instruction are highly effective approaches for learning music:
  • Makes instruction clear with life-size illustrations
  • Uses a Multi-sensorial approach for enhanced retention and learning
  • Provides a Hands-on method
  • Is an accelerated learning approach to learning music
  • Maintains the child’s interest
  • Establishes an orderly systematic step by step progression
  • Is like the phonics approach to music
  • Makes learning music fun
